The neighborhood of McKernan is located in southwest Edmonton. Until 1940, the neighborhood contained McKernan Lake, which was a favored picnic spot in the summer and ice skating area in the winter. The lake was drained in 1940, and development commenced, with the majority of construction happening between 1945-1965.
