The neighbourhood of Kensington is located in north west Edmonton. The first homes in Kensington were built between 1946 and 1960, according to the 2001 federal census, when 27.8% of the homes in the neighbourhood were built. During the 1960s, another 37% of the homes in Kensington were built. There was almost no development done in the neighbourhood during the next two decades. Another 21.8% of the homes in Kensington were built between 1996 and 2000. Single-family homes are the most common type of home in the neighbourhood, according to the 2005 municipal census, and make up 63% of the homes in the neighbourhood. The next most common type of home are rented apartments and apartment-style condominiums, and they make up another 23% of the homes in the neighbourhood. Another 12% is comprised of duplexes, and the last 2% is comprised of row housing. A total of 71% of the homes in Kensington are owner-occupied. The only school in the neighbourhood is Kensington Elementary School, which is operated by the Edmonton Public School System.
